I was hired to update Marathon Petroleum's instrumentation and controls in the Canton, OH refinery. Since the plant had been slated for closure, it fell into neglect. They had recently hired a new I&E Construction company and relations were strained. They looked to me to improve relations with the new I&E Construction company.
~ Installed 15 Micro Motion Coriolis meters in 1.5 years; previously had 1 Coriolis meter.
~ Installed Rosemount temperature transmitters; previously used no temperature transmitters.
~ Instituted a tiered vendor list.
~ Standardized instrument packages; previously had no standardization.
~ Improved accuracy of instrument and control packages.
~ Instituted manpower loading, Instrument Engineering Department
~ Reduced time to get instrument packages to construction.
~ Ensured all materials were on site prior to release of the instrument package.
~ Instituted technology for fiber backbone and drops throughout complex.
~ Improved relations between Instrument Engineering Dept. and Technical Services Dept., Maintenance Dept., and construction.
~ Managed 6 contract Instrument Engineers and 1 I&E Designer.
